And Teacher of the Year Goes to Yvonne Chamblin!

The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today.
~Francis of Assisi

This year’s RGV LEAD Regional Teacher of the Year is Yvonne Chamblin from PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS in Pharr ISD. She is a graduate of the PSJA Class of 2003 and The University of Texas-Pan American Class of 2006 where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing.

She is petite and quiet, but her teaching style can move mountains. She joined her district as a Career & Technical Education AP Capstone teacher in August 2014 following a professional background in business marketing. She participated in the RGV LEAD summer externship program where she created lesson plans for her students based on her experiences from the externship. Her outstanding dedication to teaching earned her the honor of a teacher leader on her high school campus. In 2019, she was recognized as Campus Teacher of the Year.

The inspirational teacher believes strongly in extra-curricular participation and encourages her students to join the club she sponsors, the Business Professionals of America Club. She coaches and encourages her students to compete in local, regional, state, and national competitions.

Being a person of faith, she commits herself to spend time with students outside of the school hours as a sponsor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She can also be found serving actively in her church and as a mentor for a local mentoring organization called TOW-R, Treat Others with Respect.

During the past seven years, she has provided high school seniors with a unique academic experience through the CTE Project-Based Research course and AP Cap-stone Diploma Program. She organizes an end-of-year presentation where students present their Capstone research projects to local business partners. It goes without saying that this teacher’s good deeds serve as a testimonial for her love of teaching. Congratulations, Yvonne!
