Some externs worked in offices such as the Pharr EDC, whereas others experienced the world of pipe fitting at the McAllen Careers Institute. Summer 2018 marked the sixteenth year of The Academic Leadership Alliance.  This initiative closes the gap between business and education.  Educators participate in the business world and return to their schools with real-life workplace skills.  In the last sixteen years, over 783 teachers, counselors, and administrators have partnered with local business and industry to learn current practices and essential skills.  In turn, each educator has worked with at least 240 students each year.  Therefore, over 187,920 future members of the workforce of the Rio Grande Valley have been the recipients of the practices and skills that the ALA Externs experienced during these [...]
