Jan. 2024 Newsletter | Vol. 5 | Is. 6

The UTRGV Center for Innovation and Commercialization (CIC) in Weslaco was the site for the 2024 Student Start-Up Showdown Workshop. Approximately seventy highly motivated Rio Grande Valley high school students anxiously listened to professional business consultants share their tips on creating a great business plan unique to the Rio Grande Valley.

Eloy Garza, Career Bridge Founder and Start-Up Showdown sponsor, said that students need to identify a problem and develop a solution by following specific product creation steps. The goal is to come up with a solution.

Other guest speakers for the workshop were Laurie Simmons, President & CEO of RGV Partnership Foundation; Daniel Silva, President & CEO of RGV Partner-ship Foundation; Dr. Norma Salaiz, former RGV LEAD Executive Director and Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; and Yaw Sam, Partner @ Brand Geniuz | MyFlu-ence & Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholar, 2020.

Throughout March, students will prepare their entrepreneur project and present it to a panel of judges in April. In addition to gaining business knowledge from volunteer mentors, entrepreneurs are excited to know that the first-place team will receive a $1,500 prize!

Stay tuned to see which Valley team will win the RGV 2024 Student Start-Up Showdown.

Thank you, RGV Partners, for your continued support.
