Dr. Marcos Silva, Executive Director
RGV LEAD

RGV LEAD is pleased to introduce its Executive Director, Dr. Marcos Silva. Silva is a distinguished educator, youth advocate, and innovator committed to advancing education and empowering young minds to build economic prosperity for the Rio Grande Valley (RGV).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Texas-Pan America. He earned a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, and Leadership from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Silva’s dedication to excellence earned him prestigious recognitions, including being named a TED-Ed Innovative Educator, a Bezos Educator Scholar, and a Presidential Scholar’s Influential Teacher by the US Department of Education. He has also contributed to programming recognized as a Bright Spot for Hispanic Education by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

His passion for empowering youth and fostering dialogue led him to co-found the South Texas Ideas Festival (STXi), a groundbreaking initiative supported by TED-Ed and the Bezos Foundation. Since its inception, STXi has partnered with numerous local and national foundations, academic institutions, and community leaders to provide conferences that develop youth’s leadership skills, voice, and agency. Dr. Silva’s commitment to further amplifying the stories and ideas of the Rio Grande Valley on a global platform led him to curate TEDxM-cAllen (2019) and TEDxM-cAllen Youth (2023). He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
