Phones started ringing and texts were sent out among the RGV LEAD staff after hearing Katarina Payan, a senior at Lyford High School, broadcast on Channel 5 News that she is an RGV LEAD Ambassador. It was great to hear her say that the school Ambassadors team gets together to discuss the RGV and school systems, issues relevant to the Valley.

This energetic valedictorian, with a 4.8 GPA, was recognized as the Channel 5 Student of the Week and RGV LEAD is proud of this outstanding Ambassador. She is a member of the Lyford Bulldog girls’ basketball team, National Honor Society, one-act-play cast, Lyford Bulldog cheerleader, Girls’ State participant, and has an interest in art. Katarina has mastered the skill of balancing academic studies with her extra-curricular activities. She has a passion for math and will use her love of it to pursue an aerospace engineering degree. Her goal is to shoot for the stars!
