Personal Story: A Flame Ignited


Mariana Robles isn't your typical high school junior. While some of her peers are undecided about their future paths, Mariana has already set her sights on welding. From the moment she picked up a welding torch in her shop class, she knew she had found her calling. Despite being among the few female students in the welding program, Mariana embraced the challenge head-on, determined to prove that gender is no barrier to success in the trades.


Growing up, Mariana was always fascinated by how things were put together. Whether it was tinkering with gadgets or fixing broken appliances, she had a natural knack for all things hands-on. However, it wasn't until she discovered welding that she found her passion. The sizzle of the torch, the smell of metal, and the satisfaction of creating something with her hands captivated her like nothing else.


My goal is to become an underwater welder one day. Once I am an established welder, I would like to return to the Rio Grande Valley and teach welding at Vanguard Academy to continue inspiring and encouraging other females to enter this field. ~ Mariana Robles
