Higher Education Educator of the Year

It was a moment filled with great pride and admiration for Norma Salazar, Director of the Office of Student Success at Texas State Technical College, when Sonia del Angel from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, declared that Norma was selected as the RGV LEAD Postsecondary Educator of the Year.
It Takes a Village to raise a child, and the RGV LEAD P-16 Council is taking time now to recognize members of the village who have dedicated their time and life’s work to the students of the Rio Grande Valley. This year’s Higher Education Administrator of the year epitomizes the definition of a servant leader. Mrs. Norma
Salazar Director of the Office of Student Success at TSTC. She has worked for TSTC for over 16 years.
Norma Salazar moves effortlessly working with all members of this village business, economy, agency, community partners public schools’ personnel, and higher education as well…when she shares her gift of time to RGV LEAD she shares her abilities as a thinker, a doer, and a connector. She does this all with a positive and energetic outlook. Challenges are opportunities for growth and improvement.
From January 2005 to August 2009, she worked as a Vocational Counselor for Migrant and GED students. She provided academic and supportive guidance, coordinated life management and volunteer activities, and provided different types of presentations.
