Let the Mentoring Begin!
Sharyland ISD held the annual Student Mentorship Pro-gram “Meet-and-Greet & Program Orientation Event, an RGV LEAD Mentor in-spired pro-gram, on January 12, 2022. Planning for this event began in November when mentors were recruited and junior students. Part of the recruitment included filling out an application to participate. January was dedicated to launching the program, followed by virtual meetings in February, March, and April.
Although the pandemic has thrown a wrench in the road, it won’t stop Sharyland ISD from providing mentoring opportunities to its students. The mission of this program is to match successful community professionals with aspiring high school students to ensure that all participating students graduate from high school with a college and/or career-ready mindset.
The program this year targets primarily juniors and seniors and will take place virtually during scheduled meeting opportunities and outside the school day through meetings arranged by Men-tors and Proteges. Adult mentors are carefully selected and follow a provided curriculum designed
